Speed had been Brian’s friend since his was a boy. It was the one constant in his life. It protected him when nothing else would. It had gotten him everything good in his life. It had brought his family together, saved Brian from death, Dom from prison, and given them happiness. Then death came.

It started out as rumors passed to them by their informants, then the rumors became urban legends passed from person to person till the whole of Mexico was talking about it. Epidemic. The one word that could and did unite the country in terror.

They’d expected the just be another H1-N1 scare, an average if horrible virus that had been blown out of proportion. The rumors kept becoming more extreme and more unbelievable, but cut off from the world as they were they’d never questioned the falseness of the rumors. How could something as mad as the American government creating the walking dead, be true?Brian at least should have known better.

He knew first hand how little forethought factored into the workings of the American Government, but he’d been to happy to think about the possibilities. Their disbelief disappeared as soon as the “death winds” hit Mexico and their out of the way corner of the country was suddenly inundated with refugees fleeing an unfleeable death.

They considered running, but this was one situation speed could not help them with. Even speed couldn't save them from breathing and as long as they were breathing they were as good as dead. So they hunkered down in the house where they’d experienced the happiest times of their lives and they lived life to the fullest until they to became the undead.
